Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!
March 2 is the birthday of Dr. Seuss, one of the world’s best-loved writers. In honor of Dr. Seuss and his work, communities and schools around the country will host Read Across America events this week to encourage students to read. Members of the Duffey Realty family will be participating in some of these events, and we wanted to share some of our favorite Dr. Seuss books with you, too.
REALTOR® Britt Duffey said it is hard for him to pick just one because they are all great. He likes Horton Hears a Who, but his favorite is Oh, the Places You’ll Go!
“It’s a great book that can be inspirational to anyone of any age,” Britt said.
REALTOR® Sandra O’Neal has wonderful memories of reading Green Eggs and Ham with her daughter, Lauren, and says it is still one of her favorite books. Sandra is collecting Dr. Seuss books to share with her grandchildren because she knows how much children love the stories.
“Kids love the repetition of his stories and that love helps in their confidence in reading,” she said.
Like Britt, Sandra said so many of Dr. Seuss’s books have been special over the years, including Oh, the Places You’ll Go! and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
“I love the message of how one’s cold heart can turn warm again,” she said. “It warms the heart of all of us.”
Duffey Realty blogger Carrie McWhorter’s favorite is Horton Hatches the Egg, the story of an elephant who agrees to sit on a bird’s egg while the mother bird goes on a vacation. The love that grows in Horton’s heart while he sits on the egg is especially inspiring to Carrie because she is an adoptive mother.
“I love that when the egg hatches, it is a wonderful blend of its biological mom, the bird, and Horton the elephant, who nurtured and loved it. It’s a beautiful picture of adoption,” she said.
