Historic charm makes Tallapoosa, Georgia, an appealing residential real estate market. The city’s convenient location also makes it a great prospect for business ventures, including commercial real estate development and corporate expansion. Tallapoosa is a city that appreciates its heritage. Georgia Highway 100, known locally as Bowdon Street, connects U.S. Highway 78 and Georgia Highway 120. Several well-preserved Victorian-era homes sit along Bowdon Street. The Dogwood Blossom Walking Trail passes through the historic residential neighborhood that includes several houses built in the late 1800s. Many of these homes retain the unique gingerbread trim expertly cut and installed by artisans of the era that made the architecture of this period so special.
Tallapoosa’s city limits extend to Interstate 20 Exit 5, making it a prime commercial real estate location for businesses. Exit 5 includes a hotel, gas stations, and restaurants. Downtown Tallapoosa also has several restaurants, most locally owned. Hometown pride is evident in Tallapoosa all-year long. The Haralson County Veterans Association is very active, and volunteers adorn local roadways with American flags on major holidays. Two parks also honor the contributions of Haralson County service members. The Haralson County Veterans Memorial and Medal of Honor Park is dedicated to the citizens of Haralson County who gave their lives in military service to the United States. Another park, Helton Howland is home to several historic military vehicles, including tanks, airplanes, and a helicopter. The park also has a lake, tennis court, and picnic areas, and it is home to Tallapoosa’s annual 4th of July celebration and fireworks display.
On Thanksgiving Day, downtown merchants host Christmas in Possum Snout, a day of shopping and refreshments that is the city’s official kickoff for the holidays. An annual lighted Christmas parade is held in December, and on New Year’s Eve, a big crowd comes to town to enjoy live entertainment, fireworks, and a “possum drop” (using a stuffed possum in a lighted ball). In April, local craftspeople and artisans bring their creations to the Dogwood Arts and Crafts Festival. A 5K Walk/Run begins the weekend, and local entertainers and food vendors round out the event.
Tallapoosa also is home to the West Georgia Museum of Tallapoosa, which offers a unique look at the city’s past. Interactive exhibits include a turn-of-the century doctor’s office and several wildlife exhibits designed by local outdoors expert and taxidermist Bud Jones. As visitors enter the museum, they are greeted by a display of dinosaur reproductions, a favorite of kids of all ages. The Bud Jones Taxidermy Museum in Tallapoosa is another popular attraction and includes displays of exotic animal mounts and an extensive fossil collection. The Tallapoosa Library is a branch of the West Georgia Regional Library.
Outdoor enthusiasts find lots to keep them busy in Tallapoosa. The Tally Mountain Golf Course is a popular public course with a clubhouse, driving range, putting green, snack bar, and seasonal pool. The Dub Denman Canoe Trail on the Tallapoosa River has three launch sites in Tallapoosa. The city is very walker-friendly as well. Locals enjoy walking through the historic district on well-maintained sidewalks, and a walking track at a local church is another popular spot.
Tallapoosa’s location provides convenient access to two Tanner Health System facilities, Higgins General Hospital in Bremen and Tanner Medical Center Carrollton, both of which provide inpatient and outpatient medical services, including a 24-hour emergency department, same-day surgery, and a wide range of physician and specialty services.
