Unwrapping Christmas with Jean Waldrop
Christmas traditions are an important part of Duffey Realty REALTOR® Jean Waldrop’s holiday celebrations. Her favorite Christmas tradition? Making cookies and gingerbread houses, especially with her grandchildren. Add a mug of hot cocoa, and the day is complete. Even Santa has a plate of homemade cookies and milk waiting for him at Jean’s house on Christmas Eve. Jean recently spent a few minutes sharing some of her favorite holiday memories and traditions with Duffey Realty blog editor Carrie McWhorter. Let’s see what she had to say.
CM: What are you most looking forward to this Christmas?
JW: Visiting with family and friends. One highlight will be visiting my grandchildren in Virginia. We always decorate a gingerbread house, and we get lots of laughs when we decorate our noses with red M&Ms so we all look like Rudolph.
CM: So between Rudolph and Frosty, Rudolph wins?
JW: Oh, yes.
CM: It’s wonderful to share Christmas with children. What is a favorite gift you received as a child?
JW: A Madame Alexander doll. She came with her own trunk full of doll clothes hand made by my Mama. I still have my doll and trunk, and my granddaughters now play with her.
CM: What a special treat for them! Let’s talk about some other traditions. When it comes to the tree, do you choose real or artificial?
JW: Artificial, but I sure miss the sweet aroma of a live tree.
CM: What kind of lights are on your tree?
JW: White lights that twinkle, twinkle, twinkle, topped with a star.
CM: Do you have a favorite ornament on the tree?
JW: Of all the ornaments collected over the years, my favorites have to be the ornaments made by my children when they were young.
CM: Besides buying them, how do you make your gifts special?
JW: I like to finish my shopping early. Once they are bought, I choose pretty gift wrap for the packages, and I make my own bows. I have a little of my mother’s creative talent.
CM: Do you open gifts on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
JW: Christmas Day.
CM: What about a favorite Christmas song?
JW: “Silent Night.” No one sings it like Bing Crosby, and the words say it all – “Christ the Savior is born.”
