Q & A with Duffey Realty’s Top Producer Award Recipients

About a month ago, the West Metro Board of REALTORS® held a celebration of the Top Agents in the area at the annual Top Producers Banquet, and Duffey Realty was very proud to have nine of our agents recognized at the banquet.  We normally like to take out a newspaper ad to display their accomplishments, but this year we have decided to do something a little differently.

We thought you might enjoy learning about what makes these Top Producers tick, and what they enjoy the most about helping people-whether it is in the buying or selling process; residential or commercial; etc.

Britt Duffey

  • What is one piece of advice you would give to a seller before they meet with a REALTOR® to list their property?

My advice would be for the seller to have a game plan in place for their next living arrangements when their house goes live on the market. With the market being as active and dynamic as it is, the seller needs to have a plan in place, whether long term or temporary, for where they will move after the closing.

  • What is one piece of advice you would give to a buyer before they begin looking for a new home?

First and foremost, get pre-qualified and decide where your comfort level is when it comes to monthly mortgage payments, and stay within that comfort zone.

  • Why Real Estate? What motivated you to get into the real estate business?

Real Estate gives me the opportunity to interact with and help sellers or buyers achieve their dream of homeownership.

  • Why did you choose Duffey Realty to partner with?

Really??  Is there anywhere else?

  • What are three activities that you love to do in and around West Georgia?

It is an honor to be able to volunteer at my church Southern Hills Christian Church.  Dining in the Carrollton area is very enjoyable, but it is a great challenge deciding which wonderful restaurant to eat at.  I would say another fun thing is supporting local athletic programs.  Our area has some of the best sports talent in the state.

Melanie Mitchell

  • What is one piece of advice you would give to a seller before they meet with a REALTOR® to list their property?

Prepare your home—view your home through the eyes of a potential buyer.  In other words, put yourself in the buyer’s shoes and see it as their critical eye will see your home, then make any needed changes whether it is a deep cleaning or any minor repairs that you may have been putting off until later.

  • What is one piece of advice you would give to a buyer before they begin looking for a new home?

Definitely, work with a REALTOR® you feel comfortable with.  They will guide you through the entire process, making sure you are informed every step of the way.  Also, it’s important to be patient.  Buying a home is an important decision, and the right home will eventually come your way!

  • Why Real Estate? What motivated you to get into the real estate business?

Real Estate is a rewarding work.  It’s hard work but rewarding.  It is so much more than looking at houses.  Helping clients sell their homes and transition into new ones is exciting for me.  I am motivated by the people I am privileged to work for each and every day.

  • Why did you choose Duffey Realty to partner with?

I chose Duffey Realty nearly 14 years ago because it is a family-oriented company, and it is a company based on Christian values.

  • What are three activities that you love to do in and around West Georgia?

I enjoy shopping on the Square and dining at all the great local restaurants we have in our area.  My family also enjoys frequenting the frisbee golf course at the Hobbs Farm area of the Greenbelt.

Dale Johnson

  • What is one piece of advice you would give to a seller before they meet with a REALTOR® to list their property?

Select a REALTOR® that will listen to you and one that is in touch with the ever-changing market conditions.

  • What is one piece of advice you would give to a buyer before they begin looking for a new home?

The best advice I would give any buyer is to speak with their financial adviser and know what they can afford.  Knowing your limit will save you a lot of frustration.

  • Why Real Estate? What motivated you to get into the real estate business?

I do like being that trusted adviser, and I have greatly enjoyed the friendships that have developed over the years as a result of this business.  It is often an emotional time for my clients when it comes to buying or selling.  Also, Real Estate is not a quick transaction for most people.  It is highly unusual if you end up working with someone less than 30 days, so during that time, you get to know your clients as you work together to meet their goals.

  • Why did you choose Duffey Realty to partner with?

Mr. Duffey got me interested in Real Estate.

  • What are three activities that you love to do in and around West Georgia?

Carroll County has a lot to offer its residents.  My family and I have spent our fair share of time on the Greenbelt and enjoying the different parks in the area.  We really enjoy the downtown environment that Carrollton has cultivated with great places to eat and the Amp.

Nancy Davis

  • What is one piece of advice you would give to a seller before they meet with a REALTOR® to list their property?

I would tell a seller to call me, Nancy Patterson Davis, to be their listing REALTOR.

  • What is one piece of advice you would give to a buyer before they begin looking for a new home?

I would tell a buyer to call me, Nancy Patterson Davis, to be their buyer REALTOR.

  • Why Real Estate? What motivated you to get into the real estate business?

Being a REALTOR gives me the enjoyment and pleasure of helping people fulfill their dream of home ownership.

  • Why did you choose Duffey Realty to partner with?

Duffey Realty is a family-owned Real Estate company that has been serving buyers and sellers of the West GA area since 1982.  Their long-time success can be attributed to being “The Company with the Personal Touch”.

  • What are three activities that you love to do in and around West Georgia?

I enjoy church and family, competition shooting, and biking and walking the Carrollton Greenbelt.

Randall Spake

  • What is one piece of advice you would give to a seller before they meet with a REALTOR® to list their property?

The first thing I ask is, ‘Do you have your house ready to sell?’  If it is not ready, it hurts your chances of making a good first impression, which could result in your property not reaching its maximum potential in the market.

  • What is one piece of advice you would give to a buyer before they begin looking for a new home?

I ask buyers, “Have you been pre-approved with a lender yet?”  It reduces their frustration when they know the price range they can afford.

  • Why Real Estate? What motivated you to get into the real estate business?

My wife and I loved riding around and looking at new homes under construction and existing homes for sale, which naturally led to me to get my license when I decided to pursue a second career.

  • Why did you choose Duffey Realty to partner with?

I talked to a friend in the business and they recommended Duffey Realty because it was a good brokerage run by Christian people, and he thought it would be a good match.  It was indeed a good match, and I have been with them my whole career of 15 years.

  • What are three activities that you love to do in and around West Georgia?

When I’m not working, I enjoy church activities, watching sports, walking for exercise at the Bremen Rec Center, and various activities with family.

Roxy Robinson

  • What is one piece of advice you would give to a seller before they meet with a REALTOR® to list their property?

Never underestimate the power of curb appeal.  A little sprucing up can go a long way and make a great first impression.

  • What is one piece of advice you would give to a buyer before they begin looking for a new home?

Be sure to get prequalified so you’ll know the right price range to be looking in, which will make the process go much smoother.

  • Why Real Estate? What motivated you to get into the real estate business?

Family.  I started out working in my family-run Real Estate company, and I have been around it my whole life. Real Estate is in my blood.

  • Why did you choose Duffey Realty to partner with?

When our family business closed, I wanted to remain in Real Estate, but I wanted to make sure I was partnered with a company that I felt I was equally yoked with.  I had known this company to be an honest company that wants nothing but the best for their clients and everyone else around them.  It was important for me to be with a group of people that I felt had the same values as I do.

  • What are three activities that you love to do in and around West Georgia?

LOVE walking the Greenbelt with my family, and I love getting to attend all the festivities Carrollton hosts on the Square throughout different times of the year with my kids.  Getting to shop at all the small, locally-owned shops we have in this area is a great enjoyment of mine also.

Kesha Patel

  • What is one piece of advice you would give to a seller before they meet with a REALTOR® to list their property?

Hire an agent who is knowledgeable.  It is important to have someone who is familiar with your neighborhood, your house and comparables to your house to help determine market value.

  • What is one piece of advice you would give to a buyer before they begin looking for a new home?

A question I receive often is, ‘Do I have to pay you to show me houses?’  It is important for buyers to know the answer, which is no.  I receive my compensation at closing from the Seller’s brokerage, who receives a commission from the seller out of the proceeds from the sale of the house.

  • Why Real Estate? What motivated you to get into the real estate business?

I was drawn to Real Estate for the independence and flexibility to make my own work schedule.  Basically, I work for myself and the clients I serve.

  • Why did you choose Duffey Realty to partner with?

I always wanted to associate with a local, family-owned company, and I am very happy to be associated with Duffey Realty.

  • What are three activities that you love to do in and around West Georgia?

There are sooo many things I love about Carrollton.  The ones I enjoy most are the Green Belt, American Pie Pizzeria, Events and Parades, High School (Go Trojans!) and College Football Games (Go Wolves!).

Valorie Booth

  • What is one piece of advice you would give to a seller before they meet with a REALTOR® to list their property?

Make sure your REALTOR® will always take the time to answer any questions you may have during the listing presentation and throughout the process.  It is always frustrating when every time you call an agent, you get their answering service or voicemail.  You want your REALTOR® to be reasonably available when you have a question.

  • What is one piece of advice you would give to a buyer before they begin looking for a new home?

Get prequalified before you start looking for a new home, so you will know what you can afford.

  • Why Real Estate? What motivated you to get into the real estate business?

I love working with people, and Real Estate sales fits my personality.  I enjoy the real estate part of the job, but I really enjoy getting to know my clients and helping them through the process.

  • Why did you choose Duffey Realty to partner with?

It is a company that puts integrity first.

  • What are three activities that you love to do in and around West Georgia?

I enjoy the concerts at the Amp in Carrollton and the Mill in Villa Rica, the good restaurants and local shops.  Also, the convenience of being only 30-45 minutes from Atlanta is great about West Georgia.

Jean Waldrop

  • What is one piece of advice you would give to a seller before they meet with a REALTOR® to list their property?

Have your home clean and presentable, closets neat and orderly, kitchen countertops uncluttered, bathrooms neat and tidy.  Declutter the garage and lawn and make your home look as pretty and desirable as that new home you’re about to be in the market to purchase.

  • What is one piece of advice you would give to a buyer before they begin looking for a new home?

Always have a conversation with a reputable lender and find out your qualifications and price range before you start looking at homes. This will prevent disappointments and you will begin looking within your limits.

  • Why Real Estate? What motivated you to get into the real estate business?

My father was a builder and I went with him for years watching homes being constructed.  It was fun.  After years as a math teacher, I took the plunge and studied to be a REALTOR®.  It has been a wonderful and exciting career and there is nothing more exciting than selling a first-time buyer their dream home.

  • Why did you choose Duffey Realty to partner with?

Duffey Realty has always had the reputation of being fair and honest with its clients and with the REALTORS® who work there.  It is locally owned and there is a unique closeness among the REALTORS® who work there.  We not only work there but we consider fellow REALTORS® as family

  • What are three activities that you love to do in and around West Georgia?

There is always something to do in West Georgia.  I enjoy the local restaurants, and the activities at the Amp are fun.  The Cultural Arts Center and the Townsend Center at the college always have something happening.  I also love just going to the local library on Sunday afternoon to read.  And, of course, my favorite thing to do is to “Sell West Georgia Yard by Yard.”
